There is positive news after the crazy find in Ansfelden. A raid on an old farmhouse freed 44 brutally abused dogs, who were kept in the most brutal conditions. Now one of the poor animals has given birth to eleven puppies.
“That was close! It would be inconceivable if the dog Susi had had her babies just a few days earlier – in the pitch-dark, covered torture cellar in Ansfelden!” says Pfotenhilfe boss Johanna Stadler with relief. “After all her misfortunes, she was really lucky.”
After the Pfotenhilfe Animal Shelter took in nine of the 44 dogs rescued from the Ansfelden torture cellar, Stadler immediately noticed that one of the victims, who was emaciated to the bone, had a baby bump and large teats. And now the time has come: Susi, who is about two years old and has now been given a name, has given birth to eleven babies!
Feeding with a bottle
Stadler took the young family home just in case, because because Susi doesn’t have enough milk-producing teats, she has to be fed from the bottle again and again. Stadler: “It was only after giving birth that I saw how extremely thin Susi actually is.
But things are going well for her. She eats and drinks a lot and watches over her extended family like the apple of her eye. Susi needs peace, safety, security and our full support now, but together we will do it.”
