The mountain tour of two friends (19 and 28) from Carinthia ended particularly tragically. Only one of them returned home alive on Friday.
A 28-year-old and a 19-year-old from Heiligenblut hiked on Friday from the Kaiser-Franz-Josefs-Höhe towards Wasserfallwinkel and over the Gamsgrubenscharte to the 3331 m high Fuscher-Kar-Kopf in Heiligenblut. “After a break of about an hour at the summit, the two friendly alpinists descended again via the same high-alpine route,” police describe the incident.
Slipped and fell
Around noon, the young mountaineer probably slipped on the exposed mountain path shortly after the summit. She fell a hundred meters over partially vertical rocky terrain on the Carinthian side. Her companion had to witness the fatal fall: “The girl was walking right behind the 28-year-old,” police said. Her mountain companion immediately made an emergency call, but the emergency doctor who arrived at the scene of the accident could only determine that the 19-year-old was dead.
“The body of the injured mountaineer was recovered with the help of a rope by the police helicopter from the Innsbruck air operations center and flown to Heiligenblut,” police said.
