A German student pilot (37) crashed and was seriously injured while paragliding in the Tyrolean Wildschönau (Kufstein district) on Thursday afternoon. According to police, the paraglider suddenly collapsed during flight.
The devastating accident took place in Niederau shortly before 2 p.m. During the incident, the flight instructor, with whom the 37-year-old was in contact by radio, instructed him to immediately deploy the rescue parachute. “But for unknown reasons the man did not comply with this instruction,” the police said.

The German then made an uncontrolled spiral dive and crashed into a corn field next to the landing site. “He suffered serious injuries,” investigators continued.
After initial treatment at the crash site, the 37-year-old was flown to the clinic in Innsbruck in an emergency helicopter.
