Success in Poland – EuroSkills: Austrians celebrate 18 medals

Date:

Seven times gold, six times silver and five times bronze: that is the result of the professional European Championship EuroSkills 2023 in Gdansk, Poland. The cheers among the awarded young specialists were enormous. Graz resident Anna Maria Theurl (fashion technology) won gold, as did beautician Lara Tynnauer from Graz. Furniture maker Jürgen Perhofer from Birkfeld won silver, receptionist Denise Gringl bronze.

What else than “I Am From Austria” by Rainhard Fendrich? When the 44 Austrians arrived at the official reception on Saturday evening after three days full of stress, concentration and work, there was a huge cheer – even though it was not yet clear who won which medal.

Everyone who participated won, that’s for sure. “I have goosebumps. Austria is proud of you. All the best!” said Skills Austria President Josef Herk during his speech.

Medal round
On Saturday evening the final result was finally clear: the red-white-red team can celebrate 18 medals!

“Good feeling!”
Furniture carpenter Jürgen Perhofer was the first Styrian to receive a medal; his side table earned him second place on the podium. “This feeling is so cool. This is what I always wanted!” Will the price change his work? “I hope it will be useful for me to be here.”

Gold as a surprise
Anna Maria Theurl, living in Graz, and Lisa Lintschinger from Salzburg were particularly happy when they competed together in the field of fashion technology – and won gold! “Indescribable, it cannot be expressed in words!” says Theurl.

The victory was a surprise for both. “We actually assessed ourselves worse because the circumstances were difficult. You can always see the faults in yourself.” In the end, the parka in the Pirates of the Caribbean design was enough for gold.

By the way, the medal is cross-state. Theurl is an East Tyrolean who lives in Graz and works in Jennersdorf with Vossen, Lintschinger from Salzburg.

Only five weeks of training led to victory
Lara Tynnauer from Graz “didn’t think it was possible” to win the gold medal. The beautician intervened five weeks ago. “Many things in the competition were completely different from everyday life: you have less time, less space.”

Tynnauer returns to working life “even more motivated and with even more joy”. We are now celebrating this with the other participants of the Austrian team.

“I remained myself”
Hotel receptionist Denise Gringl from Studenzen was happy with the bronze medal. “I remained myself and acted in situations the way I thought was right,” she explains her success. “The medal gets a place of honor.”

Click through three days of EuroSkills:

The highest gold award went to seven Austrians. Six participants celebrated a silver medal and five participants celebrated a bronze medal.

White-green participants rewarded
Styria can look forward to a total of four medal winners. The assembled Team Austria will fly back to Austria on Monday. There, the participants will be welcomed and honored by politicians from the Chamber of Commerce.
