A beggar from Romania was fined 100 euros in December 2020 for begging in Schanzlgasse. Sit quietly on the floor, as the woman insists. She appealed, which was rejected by the police. The state administrative court also dismissed an appeal.
With the support of the Platform for Human Rights, the case is now going to the Constitutional Court. As early as 2012 and 2017, the Supreme Court had lifted the begging ban zones in Salzburg. After the last decision, the city council issued an amended ordinance, which is now also before the Constitutional Court.
