Civil war in Sudan – At least 40 killed in airstrike on Khartoum

Date:

At least forty people have been killed in an attack on the Sudanese capital Khartoum, according to emergency medical services. “Around 7:15 a.m., a military plane bombed the area around the Qouro market,” democracy activists from the so-called resistance committees said on Sunday.

Accordingly, “dozens” of injured people were also admitted to Bashair Hospital. It is the highest death toll among civilians since Sudan’s civil war began on April 15.

“Urgent call” to all medical professionals
The hospital sent an “urgent appeal” to all doctors in the area to help treat the “increasing number of injured people”.

Since mid-April, a power struggle has been raging between the army of military ruler Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and the RSF militia of his former deputy Mohamed Hamdan Daglo.

Nearly 7,500 people have already been killed
Nearly 7,500 people have been killed since then, according to conservative estimates from the nongovernmental organization Armed Conflicts Location and Event Data Project. The actual number is believed to be much higher. According to the UN, 4.8 million people have been displaced. International attempts to broker a ceasefire have so far been unsuccessful.

The Resistance Committees are pro-democracy volunteer groups that organized demonstrations before the civil war. Since the start of the fighting, they have been organizing emergency aid in the area.
