Disastrous weekend in Werdenweng: there were three crashes in just three days at the popular paragliding hotspot. Two of those involved in the accident suffered serious back injuries.
On Sunday afternoon, a German paraglider hit the ground about 50 meters below the starting point on the 1,830 meter high Bischling in Werdenweng. He must have made a flying mistake. The 61-year-old suffered serious back injuries. The team of the rescue helicopter “Martin 1” rescued the man from the rope and took him to the Schwarzach Clinic.
On Saturday, a 39-year-old Czech crashed shortly after the start at Bischling. He was unharmed and climbed back to the starting point under his own power. However, the pilot was unable to find his parachute in the impassable, pine-covered area. Specialists took care of that on Sunday.
The series of outages started on Friday. A 61-year-old aviation athlete went into a spin when his emergency parachute suddenly opened. He fell at high speed from a height of almost 300 meters onto a meadow and seriously injured his back.
Three local paragliders provided first aid
Three local paragliders observed the accident: a 33-year-old doctor and mountain rescuer from St. Johann and two mountain rescuers from Gollingen immediately flew to the man and provided first aid to the injured person. He came to the Schwarzach Clinic by emergency helicopter.
