A 22-year-old seriously injured an opponent with a metal bar on Sunday morning in Vienna-Landstrasse. Two groups got into an argument around 5:45 am in the shopping center “The Mall” in Vienna-Mitte.
As loud screams were heard, the police were called. Two officers broke up the argument, but then the 22-year-old hit one of his opponents on the head with the metal bar, in front of the police officers.
Failed escape attempt
The suspect tried to escape, but was quickly caught. He stated that he had previously been attacked by the victim with the metal bar – a handle removed from a shopping cart. The victim received emergency medical care and was taken to a hospital.
Complaint for serious bodily injury
The 22-year-old was charged with intentional grievous bodily harm and was also banned from using weapons. There was no trace of the other people involved: about fifteen people in total.
