Scary moments for a construction site team on Monday afternoon in Seefeld in Tyrol: an excavator driver damaged a Tigas gas pipeline with his vehicle. The area then had to be closed off.
The 24-year-old operator was digging in the Kirchwald area around 12.20pm when the incident occurred. Gas then leaked from the damaged pipe, after which the foreman of the construction company called the gas emergency number and then notified the other emergency services.
People evacuated, workers cared for by rescuers
Two residents of a nearby home had to be evacuated and the area around the exit was closed. Tigas workers arrived and managed to repair the leak around 1:45 p.m. The two residents were then able to return to their home and the community road was reopened.
The excavator operator and foreman were treated on site by the rescue team. Then they could resume their work.
