At least ten people were killed in fighting between rival Palestinian groups in a refugee camp in Lebanon this weekend. Dozens of people were also injured. At the end of July there were already riots between Fatah supporters and Islamists in the camp.
At that time, more than a dozen people were killed. A ceasefire was subsequently agreed. Yet fighting flared up again last weekend. At least ten people were killed, including six supporters of the Fatah movement, two radical Islamic fighters and two civilians.
As insiders reported, the positions of Lebanese soldiers on the edge of the camp were shelled. Five forces were injured. The setting was Ain el-Hilweh, the largest of the twelve Palestinian refugee camps in Lebanon. According to the UN, around 80,000 Palestinians already live in the camp, and up to 250,000 people from Palestine live in Lebanon, spread across the country.
