Whether in Floridsdorf, Hietzing, Donaustadt or Landstrasse: patient care is increasingly lost.
Desperate parents sit in the waiting room crying – this is no longer uncommon in Viennese hospitals. In Hietzing, children with inflamed tonsils have to wait a year for their operation. Although the swelling can be relieved, sometimes it gets better, sometimes worse. But the child often misses school and, in extreme cases, has to repeat a grade. Things go a little faster in the Donaustadt and Landstrasse clinics. According to those affected, children can expect tonsil surgery in March 2024.
The Wigev hospital network explains: “If it is acute, surgery is performed immediately. For children with a chronic course, the waiting time until the date of surgery is approximately six months. At the Hietzing Clinic and the AKH there are longer waiting times due to the large number of applications.” Unless you put 8,000 euros on the table. Then things move quickly – in the private hospital.
Move to Floridsdorf. There is only one MRI machine on the health insurance policy here. Far too little, criticizes district leader Georg Papai (SPÖ). MRI scans are needed to detect different types of cancer. The 21st District with its 180,000 residents should have at least two MRI machines. Sick people wait up to 12 weeks at X-ray institutes.
The clinics in Floridsdorf and Donaustadt also have no free capacity. Here again. If you pay privately (costs around 210 euros), you will get there faster. Should that be the solution?
