In a suburb of Barcelona, one of the two drivers was killed on Monday when a suburban train collided with a freight train. Dozens of people were injured. Video footage (see above) shows an overturned brown freight car digging into the front of the commuter train.
Another 85 people were largely injured in the accident at Sant Boi station west of Barcelona, civil defense officials announced on Twitter on Monday. Nine of them were taken to hospitals in non-life-threatening condition.
The serious collision happened when some wagons of the freight train derailed and collided with the oncoming passenger train on a parallel track at the exit of Sant Boi station, the newspaper “La Vanguardia” reports.
