A store in a shopping center in the Tyrolean Wörgl (Kufstein district) went up in flames on Monday. The exact cause of the fire is currently unclear. During the investigation it turned out that a technical defect could be ruled out. So the fire could have started. The police are looking for witnesses!
The fire in the store broke out around 10 a.m. on Monday morning. About 80 firefighters battled the flames, some of which came from the store. Early in the afternoon it was finally announced that the “fire had been extinguished”. The fire surveillance and follow-up inspections were then completed around 4 p.m.
Heavy smoke, tremendous heat
According to the fire brigade, two people were taken to hospital for suspected smoke inhalation. The flames were prevented from spreading to other shops or buildings. It was a difficult mission for the Florianis. “There was a lot of plastic stuff stored in the store, so there was a lot of smoke and a lot of heat. It was a tense situation for a short time because the respiratory protection team could not continue,” FF operations manager Sebastian Prosch told the “Krone” at the time.
Technical defect excluded
The store was completely destroyed by the fire. The police started investigating the cause on Monday. The first results are now available. Explosive: “According to current knowledge, a technical defect can almost certainly be excluded as the cause of the fire,” the researchers say.
This means: “A possible arson cannot be ruled out.” The police have therefore now launched a call for witnesses.
Anyone who was in the “Tedi” store at the time of the fire or who saw anything suspicious should contact the Wörgl police (tel.: 059 133/7221).
