Is saving wrong? – “Enough for everyone, but not for everyone’s greed”

Date:

“The future government must not make cuts at the expense of the poorest,” warns the director of Caritas Vienna, Klaus Schwertner, in the live talk of krone.tv. The situation has been relatively stable in recent months. “But I’m really afraid this will change.”

Much of the help that was available in recent months is running out. According to Schwertner, the situation is currently really dangerous for many people, as he explains in an interview with Jana Pasching. “The brake on electricity prices ends at the end of the year. For a family with two children, this means additional costs of approximately 535 euros per year. Depending on the family size, these costs can amount to 725 euros per year. “This is dramatic because at the same time the energy protection shield for people and families particularly affected by poverty will expire.”

“Lines for facilities are getting longer”
The pressure on many people is increasing. The fact that something is currently changing is already noticeable in social guidance centers throughout Austria. Schwertner: “There are more and more calls being made and the lines for the facilities are getting longer.”

The fact that austerity packages and associated debt regulations will be necessary in the future is perfectly clear and indisputable. “But people who no longer have a hole in their belt to tighten it cannot tighten it either.” This means that every austerity measure taken by the federal government must be examined to see how it affects the poorest in society. single parents, minimum pensioners and families with older children, says Schwertner.

But there are also many rich people in Austria. “Sometimes you get the feeling that at the bottom of society everything is monitored very closely to ensure that every euro is spent correctly. This is not the case at the top of society. There is enough for everyone, but not for everyone’s greed. And when I think of a Benko, I think to myself that I would also like to see full information and full attention there to see how public and tax money was handled here.
