Date:

A major operation took place in the municipality of Bad Bleiberg (Carinthia) on Wednesday night. The roof structure of an apartment building, which contains an armory, a doctor’s practice and several residential units, was completely engulfed in flames.

Shortly before midnight on Tuesday, the roof structure of the apartment complex in Kreuth caught fire due to an unknown cause. In addition to the armory of the volunteer fire brigade, the building also houses an office and seven apartments. “All properties were immediately evacuated,” state police headquarters said.

“We rescued three adults, a four-year-old child and two cats from the house. Four apartments are occupied by firefighters and that is why they were already empty because they were already extinguishing the fire,” says Michael Pirker, chief of operations at the Kreuth Fire Department, adding: “We immediately saw that this was a larger scenario it was and therefore warned other fire brigades. Fortunately, we were able to get our vehicles to safety.”

The roof structure collapsed
125 men from nine volunteer fire brigades from Bleiberg-Kreuth, Bad Bleiberg, Nötsch, Wertschach/Kerschdorf, Arnoldstein, St. Georgen, Feistritz/Gail, Göriach and the main fire station of Villach were deployed with 21 vehicles to handle the large-scale fire station operation. fire that had destroyed the roof structure had already collapsed and must be removed. “In the meantime, we still have to carry out some minor extinguishing work and process some embers. The fire watch will certainly remain on site throughout Wednesday,” Pirker explains.

Fortunately, no one was injured in the fire. The residents are staying with family for the time being until they are allowed to return to their apartments.
