A horror idea: you come home and notice that criminals have destroyed your own four walls. In the Spittal an der Drau district of Carinthia, perpetrators have been taking crime to the extreme for months – and even come when someone is home. A long-lasting psychological trauma for the victims. The ‘Krone’ tracked down the burglars and spoke to the local population and victims at the crime scene.
“I now wake up at night at the slightest sound. My sleep is low and my anxiety is high. Especially during the week when I’m home alone with my daughter. I live among the settlements where the burglars struck. The perpetrators no longer shy away from anything, they even come when people are at home,” Melanie tells Krone during a local inspection in the town of Radenthein.
As reported, unscrupulous burglars have been terrorizing almost the entire Spittal district for months (see interview below). In the past ten weeks they have struck no fewer than 25 times. In their sights: cash and jewelry.
