8 defendants in Graz – brutal robbers were looking for gold treasures in the rabbit hutch

Date:

A brutal home invasion near Graz made headlines: the 55-year-old victim had hidden coins worth more than 700,000 euros in the rabbit hutch with her rodents. Eight people have now been charged.

Stattegg near Graz seems quiet, but the crime that took place there on December 13, 2022 is despicable: the three accused direct perpetrators gained access to the home of a 55-year-old with a false key. The intruders overpowered the resident, tied her to a chair with tape and cable ties and demanded that she provide the code to the safe.

Because the shocked victim could not think of this in his fright, they took the safe with its contents (approximately 35,000 euros) and a valuable bracelet. They also deliberately emptied the extensive hiding place of gold coins worth more than 700,000 euros in the rabbit hutch in the garden.

That is why, in addition to two fences and a false witness, a 57-year-old and his 28-year-old son are also accused. The older man is known to the later victim and did garden and housework for the woman. The man is said to have set up the hiding place in the rabbit hutch and, together with the Filius, informed the direct perpetrators about the special golden hiding place among the cute rodents.

Lawyer wants acquittal for alleged tipsters
“He had an overview of everything she owned and passed on the information,” prosecutor Hansjörg Bacher said in his opening statement. “We still have no proof,” said attorney Christian Fauland, who represents father and son, contradicting the prosecutor’s statements. He demands acquittal for the alleged tipsters.

The spectacular trial will continue next Thursday in the Graz Regional Court.
