Not before December – Trump: Georgia election fraud trial postponed

Date:

The trial against Donald Trump for alleged election fraud in the US state of Georgia will not take place until December. Two of the eighteen co-suspects will be tried in October, while all other trials have been postponed. Dates would still be announced, it was said on Thursday.

Judge Scott McAfee, presiding judge of the Fulton County Superior Court where Trump will stand trial, announced that there is currently no trial date for the ex-US president. However, the court’s agenda is already well filled, the trial against Trump will probably not take place before December – or not at all. And it will probably not be a quick trial, because prosecutors want to call at least 150 witnesses.

Indictment also in Washington
If the trial doesn’t take place until next year, it could be quite stressful for the ex-president with the court dates. Trump also faces federal charges in Washington related to attempted election fraud.

It is about his months-long campaign against his defeat in the 2020 presidential election, which culminated in the violent attack on the US Capitol by his supporters on January 6, 2021. The 77-year-old is accused, among other things, of conspiring against the United States. The start of the process is scheduled for the end of March 2024.

Further trial in New York
In New York, Trump was convicted of defamation of American author E. Jean Carroll, and the jury will convene for a new trial in January. However, the jury only has to decide on the amount of damages that the former US president must pay to the woman. Carroll is asking for more than $10 million.

Another trial will take place in May 2024, which will involve Trump taking secret documents with him. According to special investigator Jack Smith, Trump has violated a whole series of American laws: he has drawn up a total of forty charges. Trump is not the only one accused here: two associates will be in the dock with him. The process is expected to begin in May 2024 – in the middle of the hot phase of the Republican primaries.
