Climate activists struck again on Friday night. In the Vienna districts of Leopoldstadt and Alsergrund, they deflated the tires of about 50 SUVs.
At least one tire of each car was deflated. The police assume an action by the climate activists, as notes have again been left on the windscreen to draw attention to the climate crisis.
Two activists have already been arrested
In the Leopoldstadt district, police officers managed to arrest a 24-year-old and a 25-year-old with a tip from an attentive passerby. Both immediately confessed. They were widely reported.
“Your gas guzzler is deadly”
With these actions, climate activists had already drawn attention to themselves and the climate crisis in the past. In Tyrol, the activists left a message for the owners. “Warning – your gas guzzler is deadly. We have deflated one or more of your tires. You will be angry, but don’t take it personally. It’s not you, it’s your car,” the statement read. Several tires also went flat in Innsbruck.
Only in December did a similar action by climate activists in Vienna lead to a dangerous incident. The driver did not notice the deflation when boarding and drove off. Shortly thereafter, he slipped on a sidewalk and struck a pedestrian. Fortunately no one was injured.
