The police command of the city of Innsbruck immediately arrested five members of a drug smuggling gang. They are accused of supplying and selling narcotics to Austria on several occasions between April and November. Fake vaccination cards were also traded.
Since the summer of 2021, the narcotics group of the criminal investigation department has been investigating a couple from Innsbruck. The two (aged 29 and 23) were suspected of regularly getting cocaine in Germany and smuggling it from Bavaria to Austria. The white powder was then sold in the Innsbruck area and in the Reutte district. Extensive investigations and telephone checks and surveillances were carried out together with the Reutte police and the German authorities.
The couple was arrested by the police in November 2021 and arrested after traveling to Germany with 500 grams of cocaine immediately after crossing the border.
“Based on previous investigations, the two persons are suspected of having carried out such a purchasing trip on average twice a month between April 2021 and November 2021,” the police said.

During a search of an accomplice in Innsbruck, approximately 20 kilograms of cannabis leaves, one kilogram of cannabis resin, approximately EUR 32,000 in cash and a small amount of XTC and other addictive substances were also seized. The 31-year-old and his partner were arrested. “The seized cannabis herb and cannabis resin could be assigned to a Dutch courier,” the researchers said. This probably brought the drugs overland to Tyrol.
In the course of the investigation, five suspects were identified and arrested by the Innsbruck City Police Command. They were taken to the Innsbruck prison. In cooperation with the German authorities, two separate operating drug suppliers have been identified and detained in Germany. An amount of approximately 106,000 euros was secured. This money is also being allocated to the Austrian group, it is said.
Trade in fake vaccination cards
Because the drug trade probably wasn’t enough for them, three of the five arrested also handed out false vaccination certificates. At least 18 pieces, so-called “blank vaccination cards”, were provided with a Covid 19 vaccine sticker and sold on. Police said: “Some of the fake vaccination cards have been found and secured during the arrests.”
