On Friday evening, the police in Spittal an der Drau (Carinthia) received a report: a child abduction from a playground. A man allegedly dragged a boy into his car and then drove away.
A young girl filed a report because an eleven-year-old told her that a child had been kidnapped. A manhunt was immediately launched in the districts of Spittal, Hermagor, Villach and Feldkirchen; police patrols controlled the streets and the Libelle police helicopter provided air support.
“No notification of availability”
But after more than two and a half hours the alarm was lifted. “No further information could be obtained during the search, investigations and interrogations,” the police justified the measure. “There was no missing report or report of an abducted child in the whole of Carinthia.”
The search continues
Even the next day there were no new findings. “The incident has not yet been verified, there is a shopping center in the area where the kidnapping was reported and there was a lot going on there yesterday,” the Spittal an der Drau police station said. “There is still no report and therefore there is no new approach to the investigation.”
The search for the child and the perpetrator continues. “All officers and patrols in the district have been sensitized – we are taking the report seriously and continuing to search,” Spittal police confirmed. “Until there is new information, there is nothing more we can do at this time.”
