A terrible accident tragedy shocks Switzerland. On the night from Friday to Saturday, a horror crash took place in the canton of Appenzell Ausserhoden, not far from the border with Vorarlberg, in which two 18-year-old boys died. Two other prisoners miraculously survived.
Early on Saturday morning, shortly before 3 a.m., a black VW Polo with four young men between the ages of 18 and 21 drove from Urnäsch towards Schwägalp. Shortly before the town of Steinflue, the driver lost control of his vehicle in a right bend and left the road.
The wreckage from the accident ends up in the river
As a result, the VW Polo overturned and came to rest on its roof in the Urnäsch streambed. Two of the occupants, aged 18 and 21, were able to get out of the vehicle independently and were taken to surrounding hospitals by the air rescue service “Rega” and the emergency services. All help came too late for the other two passengers, both 18 years old; they succumbed to their serious injuries at the scene of the accident.
The cause of the accident is determined
The exact cause of the accident is being clarified under the direction of the Appenzell Ausserrhoden public prosecutor’s office and by specialists from the cantonal police. The forensic service and the St. Gallen Institute for Forensic Medicine were called in to secure the evidence. Schlägalpstrasse had to be closed in both directions, so that the accident investigation, which lasted about five hours, had to be completed.
