A 66-year-old man fell about 100 meters during a walk in Vordernberg (Leoben district) on Sunday and suffered fatal injuries. All help came too late for the mountain climber.
Three people went on a hike to the high tower in the municipality of Trofaiach on Sunday afternoon. During the descent around noon, a 66-year-old from the Leoben district stumbled through his own fault. The man hit his head on a rock and fell about 100 meters over rough terrain.
No foul play
His companions immediately went to the victim, called the emergency services and provided first aid. However, the emergency doctor called from the rescue helicopter Christophorus 17 could only determine that the 66-year-old was dead. The Alpine Police recovered the body with the help of the police helicopter and brought it to the valley. Police investigation has not revealed any foul play.
