Trapped in Gutter – Saving Mother Cat With Babies From Certain Death

Date:

It was a soft wail on her school grounds that a headmistress overheard at the end of August. Because the pitiful meowing did not stop, but there was no kitten in sight, the observant animal lover warned the Vienna fire brigade. The fire brigade immediately arrived and searched the area. It was believed that the little cat might have fallen into a gutter.

The firefighters, who were deployed with nine emergency services and two vehicles, searched for the cat, but heard no sound — neither from the garden nor from the basement near the downspouts. Because despite the intensive search no success was in sight, the inspection chimney sweeps of the professional fire brigade were called in to continue the search with their endoscope cameras. With this special device, the kitten was about eight meters away from where it would have fallen into the gutter. Since the firefighters now knew the exact position, the kitten, visibly battered from the effort, was able to be freed from its predicament.

Advanced search
After the little one kept meowing bitterly, a cat expert was called in who works on behalf of the animal welfare ombudsman in Vienna and specializes in catching cats. Moments later, the devoted “cat whisperer” was able to secure the mother and reunite her with her baby so that the small family could be transferred to TierQuarTier Vienna. There, the two were immediately examined and given veterinary care. Since the duo literally narrowly escaped death, they were called “Hope” and “Lucky”.

Velvet paws happiness
“The rescue of ‘Hope’ and ‘Lucky’ came at the last minute. If ‘Lucky’ had been in the pipe any longer, he would have starved to death,” said Thomas Benda, operations manager of the TierQuarTier, in horror. had human contact. She may have gotten pregnant unexpectedly, an unwanted burden to her owners and therefore wandered around with her babies. That’s also the tragedy: ‘Lucky’ is certainly not her only baby. And despite all our efforts and intensive searching, we were only able to find ‘Hope’ and ‘Lucky’ on the site,” says Benda.

In safety
“Hope” and “Lucky” were handed over to an experienced foster family so they could recover from the shock and hardship. After all medical examinations have been completed, a home is sought for the two.

The TierQuarTier Vienna and the Animal Welfare Ombudsman Vienna are now counting on the help of the population:
