In the fight against the corona virus, India has now approved a nasal spray vaccine against Covid-19. The vaccine from Indian manufacturer Bharat Biotech can be used as a basic vaccination for adults, Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said on Twitter.
The vaccine gives India’s fight against Corona a big boost. It is the first nasal vaccine in India, reported the Indian news agency ANI. Bharat Biotech also produces the inactivated corona vaccine Covaxin, which is widely used in India and several other countries.
India is known as the world’s pharmacy and generally produces much of the world’s vaccines – especially for poorer countries. Since the pandemic, the country has produced the AstraZeneca vaccine and specially developed vaccines, among other things.
Nasal spray vaccination would be cheap
According to Bharat Biotech, phase 3 studies have been successfully completed. The associated data would therefore be published in scientific publications in the future. The nasal spray vaccination called iNCOVACC should be inexpensive and therefore well suited for use in low- and middle-income countries.
