There has been another incredible case of police brutality in the United States: In San Antonio, Texas, a cop shot and killed a 17-year-old who was eating a hamburger in his car. The teen was apparently the victim of a fatal mix-up – he was taken to hospital in critical condition.
Police have released a bodycam video of the incident. You see the cop approaching the parked car. Finally, he rips open the driver’s door of the car – when the frightened teenager, who is eating a hamburger, then starts the car and tries to drive away, the cop starts firing. The boy is hit by several bullets.
Police officer confused vehicle with getaway car from the day before
The 17-year-old shot victim was not guilty of anything: the police officer had been called in for a disturbance that the young person had nothing to do with. However, the officer had seen a similar car the day before. He assumed it was the same car. After the shots, the 17-year-old was initially charged with fleeing arrest and assaulting a police officer. Both charges were later dropped.
The bloody incident has professional consequences for the police officer: because of the bodycam recordings, he was removed from service without notice.
