According to the British Ministry of Defense in London, the Ukrainian counter-offensive at Bakhmut in the east of the country is making progress. The villages of Klishchiivka and Andriivka, about eight kilometers south of the city in Donetsk Oblast, could therefore be secured.
The recapture of the two cities around September 15 was a major tactical success that brought Ukrainian troops closer to one of the main supply routes of the Russian occupiers, the T 05-13 road, the Ministry of Defense announced on Wednesday morning on X. formerly Twitter).
Recent transfers of Russian airborne troops from Bakhmut to Zaporizhia in southern Ukraine have likely weakened Russian defenses around Bakhmut, the report said (see tweet above).
“Russia, however, continues to control the railway line, which runs along an embankment between Klishchyivka and T 05-13 and represents an easily defended obstacle,” the Defense Ministry wrote on X.
Villages have been almost completely destroyed
There is reportedly nothing left of Andriivka and Klishchiivka except rubble. But this could be a military advantage for Ukrainian forces, observers say. Because almost everything has been shot down and virtually razed to the ground, Russian forces can hardly ambush the advancing Ukrainians.
The British Ministry of Defense publishes daily information about the progress of the war since the start of the Russian war of aggression in Ukraine in February 2022. Moscow accuses London of disinformation.
