During the summer holidays, the occupancy rate of hotels in the CAV capitals increases

In the Basque Country as a whole, 896,915 overnight stays were registered in hotel establishments in August 2023, 6.9% more than in August 2022. The room occupancy rate reached 87.5% and prices increased by 9.0%.

The number of tourists visiting hotels in the Basque Autonomous Community last August amounted to 411,372, representing an increase of 3.5% compared to the same month last year, with registrations resulting in 896,915 overnight stays (+6.9%).

51.9% of entries and 48.6% of overnight stays came from people of foreign nationality, with increases of 9.6% and 15.2% respectively, as reported this Monday by the Basque Statistical Institute – Eustat .

By territoriesIn Álava, 58,815 visitors and 118,406 overnight stays were registered, 5.2% and 12.4% more than in August of the previous year; In Bizkaia, growth was 1.7% in the number of visitors and 5.4% in overnight stays, with a total of 190,784 visitors and 408,804 overnight stays; and in Gipuzkoa there were 161,773 visitors, 5.0% more, and 369,705 overnight stays, 6.9% more than in the same month of the previous year.

By means of Capitalsthe number of entries increased by 7.8% in Vitoria-Gasteiz, 7.3% in San Sebastián and 2.8% in Bilbao. Similarly, the increase in overnight stays compared to August of the previous year is 17.8% in Vitoria-Gasteiz, 9.1% in San Sebastián and 6.6% in Bilbao.

The three capitals of the CAV celebrate their festival in August patron saint holidays or major weeks. During the Fiestas de la Blanca, 9,119 entries and 18,932 overnight stays were registered, while during the days that the Aste Nagusia lasted in San Sebastián, a total of 26,852 entries and 62,432 overnight stays were registered; In the Aste Nagusia in Bilbao there were 36,743 admissions and 77,801 overnight stays.

The average stay in BAC hotel establishments this amounted to 2.18 days during the month of August, more than the 2.11 days observed in the same month of the previous year. The average stay refers to the number of days that travelers spend on average in each of the establishments where they stay, and not to the total duration of their stay in Euskadi.

The assessment daily average (applied to a double room with bathroom on a room only basis) amounted to 135.96 euros, 9% more than in August last year. This average rate was 170.56 euros in Gipuzkoa, 117.40 euros in Bizkaia and 94.56 euros in Álava.

He occupancy rate in the BAG this amounted to 80.3% measured by places and 87.5% measured by rooms, an increase of 1.9 and 2.2 percentage points respectively compared to last year.
