A huge explosion shook the megacity of Cangzhou in northern China’s Hebei province on Thursday morning. A factory building erupted in a huge fireball, killing two people.
According to eyewitnesses, a fire had previously broken out in the factory. When the building exploded moments later, the fireball was visible from afar (see video above), they report.
According to the local emergency management agency, the cause of the accident is currently under investigation. The company’s senior managers are believed to be detained by security forces during the investigation, China Daily, the People’s Republic’s largest English-language daily, reported.
Fires and industrial accidents continue to occur in China due to negligence and failure to adhere to safety regulations.
