After a major fire broke out in the Bösendorfer piano factory in Wiener Neustadt on Wednesday evening, the cause of the inferno is now known. The factory outbuilding had burned to the ground. The reason for this is said to have been a technical defect in an electrical device.
According to police spokesman Stefan Loidl, the damage caused has not yet been definitively quantified, but it will probably amount to more than 300,000 euros. The investigations were conducted by the State Criminal Police of Lower Austria and the Federal Criminal Police. The local fire brigade expert was also called in.
Emergency services speak of “total damage”
The outbuilding used as an archive, which was affected by the fire, burned to the ground. Commander and operations manager Christian Pfeiffer of the FF Wiener Neustadt spoke of a “total loss”. The production building could be protected.
The Bösendorfer location in Wiener Neustadt opened in 1973. All of the company’s instruments (according to the company almost 300 per year) are manufactured in the legal city in the south of Lower Austria.
