Invasive plants continue to pose a problem. Therefore, a course was held at the Tyrolean Neophyte Center to make decision makers aware of the fight against harmful species. Neophyte expert Konrad Pagitz from the Institute of Botany at the University of Innsbruck explains when neophytes cause damage and how they can be controlled.
They are called American skunk cabbage, bastard knot or narrow-leaved waterweed and fall into the group of neophytes, that is, those plants that are not actually native to this country. “If human activity is decisive for the reappearance of a plant in an area, it is called alien,” explains Konrad Pagitz from the Institute of Botany at the University of Innsbruck.
