Will the mega wind farm in Leitzersdorf now be cancelled? This will be voted on this Sunday in the Weinviertel. The project involves ‘only’ six wind turbines, but the dimensions of the systems are enormous.
As is known, every second wind turbine is located on the red-white-red federal territory in Lower Austria. Soon there could be even more. And even if the planned wind farm in Leitzersdorf in the Weinviertel, as reported, includes “only” six gigantic rotors, the scale of the project is quite impressive. At an impressive 247 metres, the facilities are at eye level with Vienna’s Danube Tower and rise clearly above the nature reserve on nearby Michelberg.
Criticism and infopolitics
No wonder that residents are not very enthusiastic about the ‘wind giants’ on their doorstep. Tomorrow, Sunday, the citizens of the community can vote on the project together with those of the neighboring towns of Hatzenbach, Kleinwilfersdorf, Wiesen and Wollmannberg. Opponents mainly criticize the lack of information from the administration.
Mayor Sabine Hopf (ÖVP) outlined the most important data of the systems in the community newspaper, but those directly involved had to become familiar with the enormous dimensions at the EVN information evenings. That is why the critics are mobilizing on all channels. However, proponents emphasize the “positive ecological impacts” of the project.
