The constant rain has made the mountains dangerously slippery. A 25-year-old fell in Grünau im Almtal during a 40m mountain climb through a steep gully, lost his mobile phone and desperately called for help. Another alpinist overheard him, alerted the police and administered first aid.

A 25-year-old from the district of Vöcklabruck was hiking on Tuesday around 6:15 p.m. in the area of ​​the Windhagkogel and the Hochsalm in the municipality of Grünau im Almtal. He lost his orientation for a moment between the two peaks and got lost. The rain of the past few days made conditions slippery and when he tried to get back on the trail, the 25-year-old fell about 40 meters over steep rocks, gravel and meadows into a gully.

He lost his mobile phone and could only draw attention to himself by shouting. A 48-year-old from the Kirchdorf district, who happened to be at the top of the Hochsalm, heard the fall and the call for help. He immediately went to the scene of the accident and alerted the police when he got in. Then he administered first aid. Due to the severity of the injury, the alpine police officer alerted the emergency helicopter and the mountain rescue service.

Saved by dew rescue
Meanwhile, several mountain rescuers arrived at the scene of the accident, cared for the patient, and escorted the first responder back to the trail. The injured person was rescued by dew rescue by the emergency helicopter and then taken to the Salzkammergut clinic in Vöcklabruck.
