The parliamentarian from Geroa Bai has acknowledged that the “significant differences” between the signatories of the government of Navarre’s programmatic agreement are numerous, “more than 20”. For this reason, one of Geroa Bai’s priorities was to introduce “improvements in control mechanisms” into the pact.
Satisfied with the content of the programmatic agreement and, above all, with a very clear conscience for vigorously defending the interests of all Navarrese citizens to the end. This is how Geroa Bai’s parliamentarian showed himself Mary Solana the day after the signing of the reissue of the Government of Navarra together with PSN and Contigo Navarra. It does not hide its concern about the “numerous and important discrepancies” that have re-emerged within the tripartite, but assures that they will work to ensure that the plurality embodied in the pact is respected and that PSN does do not act unilaterally. “The challenge is that the tripartite government is not the Chivite government,” he qualified.
The agreement is reached after a few weeks intense negotiations, a time when the Abertzale coalition has not even ruled out the option of “remaining in opposition”, according to Solana. “But what can the PSN do without Geroa Bai in government?” he asked, defending the “importance” of the role of the coalition led by Uxue Barkos in the Foral Executive. “The past four years have been very difficult, we have been heavily criticized and also punished at the polls. But our role in the government of Navarra is very important,” he added.
Given this scenario, he has maintained that one of the “priorities” for Geroa Bai from the start is “strengthening the control mechanisms” so that “compliance” with what is included in the agreement is guaranteed. He has confirmed that many of the points agreed in the last legislature have not been fulfilled, “and even the PSN itself has acknowledged it”. has he understands that “It is fine to be self-critical and accept mistakes”, but that it is necessary to go further “extremely controlling in order to intervene as quickly as possible when problems arise”.
Among the discrepancies, he particularly highlighted those related to the scope of the Basque. “The current PSN is more distant from the Basque language than the PSN of 2010,” he stressed, although he wanted to make it clear that there is “progress” in this area in the agreement. “In Education, for example, we have defended ourselves and it has been established that all families who opt for the Basque model are taken into account. In any case, there is the will to comply with this demand,” he clarified. However, he acknowledges that they failed to change the Euskera law to “overstep the mark”.
The partners of the government met this Wednesday in the Parliament of Navarra with EH Bildu to explain the programmatic agreement so that the abertzale formation with its abstention allows the inauguration of the socialist María Chivite. “It will not be a negotiation, there will be no offer. Chivite has been blunt in that,” he concluded.
