A horrific bloody act shocked Chicago: a 43-year-old shot a neighbor’s child in the head who was playing outside. The nine-year-old girl’s father watched helplessly.
For Michael Goodman, Serabi Medina had behaved too loudly while playing in the Portage Park neighborhood – that was her death sentence for the 43-year-old. He stormed out of his apartment on Saturday and ran across the street. He then pointed a gun at the girl, aimed at her head. In the hospital, the doctors could do nothing more for the child.
Goodman was injured in an attack by the victim’s father
Serabi’s father had yelled at the gunman before firing the gun when he saw him running toward his daughter, but that didn’t stop Goodman. After shooting at Serabi, her father attacked the 43-year-old. Another shot was fired, hitting Goodman in the left eye.
The perpetrator has a criminal record and a valid firearms permit
The shooter was arrested and charged with murder – he was not given a chance to be released on bail. During the hearing, he remained silent about the incident. He has no criminal record and has a valid firearms permit.
Neighbors of the detainee told the Sun-Times that noise often upset him. “Before he shot her, he said something about her being too loud,” his neighbor Megan Kelley reported. “It just didn’t make sense. None of that made sense. Anyone in the community would just tell him it’s just kids having fun playing. Just leave her alone.”
