Neighbors in Pinellas County, Florida, witnessed a macabre sight. There, an alligator was seen dragging a body through the residential area. Even when a stone was thrown at the reptile, he did not forsake his sacrifice. The animal was eventually shot.
The alligator was spotted near a waterway on Friday. A resident reported throwing a rock at the animal so it would move away from its motionless body. But the reptile was unimpressed and disappeared backwards into the water with its prey.
Divers fished body parts out of the water
Police and fire brigades then looked for the animal and were able to kill it with several shots. The sheriff in charge and Florida Wildlife Conservation reported that the killing was carried out in a “humane manner.” A diving team also had to go out to retrieve human body parts from the water.
Alligator may have attacked woman from water
According to an eyewitness, the animal was more than four meters long, FoxNews reports. The dead woman was eventually identified as a 41-year-old. The cause of death is not yet completely clear. It is said that she was a homeless woman who lived in a camp near a forest. The deceased’s daughter admitted, “It is believed she was walking to or from her campsite near the creek in the dark and the alligator attacked from the water.”
The residents are restless and worried after the incident. “It’s really scary,” explains one resident. Her children often walk along the canal. She also goes to work along the waterway every day, she will be more careful now.
