A truck driver experienced a horror ride in Lech in Vorarlberg on Monday: the heavily loaded vehicle overturned on an unpaved freight road and eventually fell 20 meters.
A 21-year-old man was driving downhill from Oberlech towards the Weibermahdbahn mountain station at 9:21 am on Monday morning. His truck was loaded with excavated material. According to eyewitness accounts, the truck suddenly drove too far to the right onto a freight road that was not paved.
Steep dike
The truck was only traveling at a snail’s pace when the entire vehicle tipped on its side and fell approximately 20 meters down an extremely steep embankment. Eventually the truck landed on its roof and the driver was miraculously able to climb out of the cab independently.
He suffered some bruises on his arms and legs and a scratch on his chin. He was flown to hospital by helicopter. The clean-up work was still in progress in the afternoon.
