In southern Spain, police have arrested a priest who allegedly drugged and sexually assaulted several women. The 34-year-old, who also filmed the alleged acts, was arrested in Vélez-Málaga, Andalusia, about 30 kilometers east of Málaga, police said on Monday.
Five victims have been identified so far from the seized videos. However, police said they cannot rule out the possibility that more injured women will be found during the course of the investigation. The investigating judge has ordered pre-trial detention.
Women knew nothing about the crime
The women identified in the videos and who have since been contacted did not realize they had been victims of an alleged sexual crime. They were also unaware of the videos’ existence, the police report said.
The investigation was launched in August when a former roommate of the suspect discovered videos and photos on a hard drive showing the crimes the man was accused of. She immediately alerted the authorities.
Victims belonged to the circle of friends
According to police, all alleged victims belong to the priest’s circle of friends and, according to current findings, were abused by the man during group trips to different regions in Spain. The Episcopal Diocese of Malaga, which is responsible for the priest, expressed its pain in a statement. They said they were cooperating with the judiciary in this case.
