A man stormed the apartment of Janez Diethart (49) in Bischofshofen with a sword in his hand, because the attacker thought he heard the voice of his girlfriend from the neighbor. A fatal and alcohol-related mix-up that prompted a police operation on August 9.
“Everything happened quickly”
“My son had opened the door. “The man went through the apartment with a saber and waved it around,” the mechanic describes the evening. “Everything happened quickly. I immediately told him he had to get out. But he kept swinging the sabre. Then I went after him. There was a scuffle in the stairwell.” The police came. Diethart talks about bruises on his back and shows cuts he suffered on his arm and knee. His girlfriend also got a real shock. “That’s why she doesn’t want to come to the apartment anymore.”
Pongauer now wants to fight for justice
The 49-year-old says he does not know the saber perpetrator himself: “I have lived here for twenty years and saw him for the first time.” The attacker must now get away without consequences. The Public Prosecution Service has stopped the investigation. “Someone shows up at my apartment in the middle of the night with a saber and waves it around, and that shouldn’t be a crime?”
The public prosecutor confirms: “Everything has been checked, including negligent physical injury.” The witness did not specifically say that the attacker wanted to stab him, the spokesperson points to a lack of intent: “We could not determine where the cuts came from.” It’s not enough for an indictment, they say. “I only told the truth,” Diethart emphasizes. He is now announcing an application for reopening.
