A serious collision between a bus and a motorcycle took place in Öblarn (Liezen district) in Styria on Tuesday afternoon. The motorcyclist was fatally injured.
Around 2:15 p.m., a 46-year-old from the Liezen district was driving a bus on the L734 highway in a westerly direction and wanted to turn left at kilometer 3.3 towards Niederöblarn. A head-on collision occurred with an oncoming motorcyclist.
Resuscitation fails
The 75-year-old driver from the Gmunden district (Upper Austria) hit the right front of the bus and ultimately landed on the side in front of the bus. The driver of the two-wheeler was attended to by the bus passengers on the spot and then resuscitation measures were carried out by the rescuers from the Christophorus 14 rescue helicopter.
However, these were of no avail and the emergency physician present had to determine that the 75-year-old motorcyclist had died of polytrauma.
The driver of the accident received first aid at the scene of the accident and was attended to by the Styrian crisis intervention team. In addition to the aforementioned forces, the Gröbming rescue service and the Niederöblarn volunteer fire brigade were also involved in the operation.
