Tragic accident – bus driver overlooked cyclist: he died on the way

Date:

A motorcyclist (75) from the Gmunden district was fatally injured in a collision with a bus in Öblarn (Stemk.) on Tuesday afternoon. The team from the nearby base of the ÖAMTC rescue helicopter C14 quickly arrived on the scene, but could no longer help him despite resuscitation.

A 46-year-old bus driver from the Liezen district was driving a bus on the L734 towards Öblarn around 2.15 pm and wanted to turn left towards Niederöblarn. She may have overlooked the approaching two-wheeler. A head-on collision occurred, with the motorcyclist crashing into the front right of the bus and landing on the side in front of the vehicle.

First aid for bus passengers
The Upper Austrians was first treated at the scene of the accident by bus passengers and then resuscitated by the emergency medical team from the rescue helicopter Christophorus 14. Ultimately without success, the emergency doctor had to determine that the 75-year-old had died of polytrauma. The driver of the accident was injured, received initial treatment at the scene of the accident and was cared for by the Styrian crisis intervention team.
