Police officers witnessed a man being stabbed at the Josefstädter Straße metro station on Wednesday afternoon. Officers provided first aid to the victim and arrested the suspect after a short pursuit.
The incident took place at 12:20 pm on the Lerchenfelder Belt. Officers initially noticed a scuffle between two men. One of the two men suddenly left his colleague and ran into the nearby subway station. The other collapsed.
Stab wound in the neck area
The suspect fled, but was chased on foot by police officers and temporarily arrested. Meanwhile, the police officers and employees present provided first aid. It turned out that the victim had suffered a stab wound to the neck. Vienna’s professional rescue service provided emergency medical care to the victim and then took him to a hospital.
Suspect refuses to testify
A pocket knife, the suspected murder weapon, was found in a flowerbed and seized. The arrested 27-year-old refused to make a statement. The Vienna State Criminal Investigation Department has taken over further investigation into the case.
