Music and Diplomacy – The US Secretary of State presents rock star talent

Date:

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken showcased unprecedented talent at the launch of his department’s new Global Music Diplomacy initiative. The 61-year-old picked up an electric guitar and sang blues legend Muddy Waters’ hit ‘Hoochie Coochie Man’ on stage.

Blinken shared a video on X (Twitter) of his performance. “I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to combine music and diplomacy tonight,” he captioned the clip. For this, the American politician received many positive responses in the short message community.

Blinken himself may not be so convinced of his talent. Before his appearance, Blinken joked: “If this doesn’t clear things up, I don’t know what will.” He doesn’t have to be ashamed of his actions. The reactions under the video are almost exuberant. “Fantastic!”, “Amazing”, “Holy shit, this is a great surprise”, are just some of the positive comments.

Tours by American acts planned to 30 countries
The State Department’s new initiative will send top artists from the United States to countries such as China and Saudi Arabia. Various bands and artists are planning trips to a total of 30 countries. American pop culture has dominated the international music scene for decades, although it has grown largely without government support.

During the Cold War, the United States eagerly sent performers to court audiences abroad, including many black performers who at the time were forced to perform in segregated venues in parts of their own country.
