Thailand’s new Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin has announced that he will donate every month of his salary to charities while in office. The head of government (61) believes “in the power of giving” and will set a good example, the Bangkok Post newspaper quoted government spokesman Chai Wacharonke on Thursday. The money will benefit child protection organizations, among other things.
The former real estate magnate Srettha, who comes from a wealthy family, earns a total of 125,600 Thai baht (about 3,200 euros) per month as head of government, consisting of his salary and allowances. A special working group must select the foundations and organizations that need help particularly urgently.
The new government has pledged to reduce social inequality in the kingdom and promote children’s education. Srettha was sworn in as prime minister in early September after months of political unrest.
