When you see the photos of the accident scene, it is hard to believe that this collision caused only one minor injury. A tractor-trailer driver overlooked a car while changing lanes on the A1 near Sattledt (Upper Austria) and pushed it against the center rail. The damaged truck lost hundreds of liters of diesel.
On Wednesday evening around 7 p.m., an 80-year-old from Gmunden drove his car on the A1 from Vienna towards Salzburg. The senior was driving in the passing lane when a truck driving to his right tried to enter his lane.
Truck driver overlooked car
The driver from Obernberg/Salzburg (48) must have overlooked the Gmunden man’s car and then pushed him against the center guardrail with his heavy vehicle. During the collision, the truck left the road, overturned and came to rest on the opposite side of the road on a grass verge.
Car turned
The 80-year-old’s badly damaged car started spinning and also came to a stop in the left lane. Miraculously, the car driver was unhurt, while the truck driver suffered minor injuries.
Hundreds of liters of diesel in the ground
About 100 liters of fuel flowed from the trailer’s diesel tanks into the ground, which now had to be removed. The right lane was closed from 7:30 PM to 5:00 AM for cleaning work.
