Two caregivers from a private children’s group are currently being investigated in Vienna on suspicion of abuse. Two children from two different groups were allegedly locked in a toilet during daycare, sprayed with water, dunked their heads under a sink, and hit and screamed at. The victims’ parents reported to Magistrate Department 11 (MA 11) – a temporary suspension of the two women was ordered.
MA 11 confirmed to the APA on Friday that the two teachers were being investigated. The parents noticed a change in their children’s behavior after the incidents and learned of the allegations through conversations with them. The report to MA 11 was made last Friday evening.
“No danger to other children”
MA 11 ordered the two women to be temporarily suspended. “We approached the carrier on Monday at 7 a.m.,” said a spokeswoman. “The branch is open from Monday to Friday. There was never any danger to other children,” the report said. The suspected teachers have since stopped working for the private institution. “Until the allegations are cleared up, they will no longer be allowed to work with children.”
Punishment for bad behavior
The spokeswoman explained that the spanking in the form of a “slap on the buttocks” was part of the charges. The abuse is said to be intended as punishment for bad behavior. “If this has happened, it is clearly unacceptable behavior and has nothing to do with pedagogy,” the spokeswoman said. The responsible agency for child protection in primary education is currently working on presenting the facts to the Public Prosecution Service. Since then, police have also been investigating, it was said.
