After a helicopter crashed off the coast of the Greek island of Euboea, there is now sad certainty: the pilot who crashed the helicopter into a storm died. The 69-year-old’s body was recovered from a depth of about 52 meters.
The search took so long because the flooding caused huge amounts of debris to end up in the sea and visibility was limited, reporters on the scene reported. The helicopter crashed into the sea off the island of Euboea during heavy rain on Thursday and sank.
The cause of the crash remains unclear
Authorities initially suspected that there were two people in the helicopter. But the divers did not find the pilot’s body until Friday. Heavy storms have hit the region over the past two days. The sun is now shining again in most regions of Greece. There is currently no information on the cause of the crash.
