It sounds like cheap science fiction: a chip transplanted into the brain will allow people with spinal cord injuries to walk and merge us with AI. This is what Elon Musk’s “Neuralink” aims to achieve. The first chips are now being transplanted into human brains. Madness or genius? Krone+ interviewed a brain researcher.
It has been an extremely turbulent few weeks for Elon Musk’s start-up Neuralink. After years of disputes, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has finally approved the Neuralink chip to be implanted in human brains for research.
At the same time, reports emerged that up to twelve monkeys died of pain due to failed implants during the company’s negligent animal testing. The company strongly denies this and authorities are investigating.
