Reptile without a purpose – Viennese woman loses her iguana on Danube Island

Date:

An extremely strange case reached the “Krone” late on Thursday evening. A Viennese woman took her almost one meter long iguana for a walk on the Danube Island 17 days ago (!). However, the animal escaped and to this day there is no trace of the little “dinosaur”.

First things first: the (currently former) owner of the iguana is not an amateur, but rather an experienced reptile keeper. Months ago, she spent hours seeking advice before allowing her to bring home the large pangolin named ‘Merlin’. But according to a zookeeper from Haus des Meeres in an interview with “Krone,” iguanas need some time to become “warm” and tame in order to gain trust in their new owners.

Lady wanted to ‘make iguana happy’
But apparently that didn’t happen quickly enough for the Viennese. So she wanted to take advantage of the beautiful late summer weather. 17 days ago, she packed up the young animal, which was less than a year old, and drove the approximately one meter long, glittering turquoise reptile to the Danube Island to, according to her own statements, “make the animal happy” . But the trip went terribly wrong. Since “Merlin” was probably scared or simply overwhelmed by the many impressions, he quickly ran away and hid.

Low temperatures mean danger to life
It has been missing ever since
any trace of a prehistoric animal. However, it was only on Thursday that the lady reported the absence to the House of the Sea. No one knows exactly where the iguana is: it runs fast and is a fantastic swimmer. He could have dug in, but he could also have covered quite a distance. Time is running out. The animals can also withstand temperatures in the single digits. But if it remains below 18 degrees for a long time, there is a risk of serious pneumonia.

If you see “Merlin”, the iguana, report it immediately to the Haus des Meeres number 06641217427.
