September 30 is the national day of action for dyslexia and dyscalculia. About a tenth of all schoolchildren suffer from dyslexia, that is, a weakness in reading and writing. However, the support for children in schools is not yet optimal. “So there is still a lot to do and there is still a lack of qualified training, because the bras are not yet fully prepared for this and I am busy with my work,” says Patrick Thalhammer, Digital Education Expert in the krone.tv- conversation with Nina Coloini.
According to Thalhammer, to provide children with the right support, you not only need qualified teachers, but also many learning opportunities. This is where digitalization comes in for him: “It allows us to give all children the same opportunities. This means that through the targeted use of technology we can highlight students’ strengths and promote their weaknesses,” says Thalhammer.
But Thalhammer’s appeal to the government is clear: “The teachers must be armed and someone must pay for it. And it is important that the government invests money and organizes truly qualified trainers and not the usual suspects.”
